No uniforms, thankfully! I can wear a skirt or shorts or jeans (Isn’t that all we girls think about?)!!
I always wished for a co-ed college since class 11, but my dreams exploded the day I got admission in a girl’s college. I was left with no choice. I couldn’t help but think how I will spend the next three years with just girls around. No opposite sex means, no chance to have a boyfriend! :) But the excitement of entering college life (even though it’s a girl’s college) remains the same. I woke up in the morning excited to attend my first day at college. I got ready and took a rickshaw to go to the college. When I reached in front of the college gate, I turned around and saw four wonderful things that instantly made me look forward to the next three years of college! Right across the road was café Coffee Day, Momo walla bhaiya, Baskin Robbins and a phone recharge counter. What more could I possibly want!
The moment I walked through the double gates of our college, I thought “I hope I don’t get ragged” because I heard a lot about the ragging system of college life but thanks God ragging is banned in DU.I told myself “finally I made it here!” I had never seen so many girls under one roof without breaking into a cat fight before. It seemed so unreal!
We fresher’s have the option of joining any society we like. There were so many societies. Registration fee for every society was Rs.20. “So let’s socialize”, I told myself and I made many friends. Most of my friends advised me to join at least one or two societies that make sense! The advantages of societies are to improve our talents, personalities, qualities and not to forget the most important one…. “Pink slip” (attendance bonus):@
Class, Whazzat?! Everyone comes to DU thinking, “We are going to bunk, man! We are going to have fun, man! We are going to have a blast, man!”
Yeah, that’s absofreakinglutely true! I have bunked many classes so far under mass bunk category! But for the classes we did attend, they were all serious ones. Our lecturer’s have been reminding us since day one to be serious with our studies at the same time. For the first few days I was clueless of what was taught in the class. Victorian Age, Modern Indian Literature, and Critical Essays on blah blah blah….All these were new to me! Then comes, Seminar, Tutorials and Assignments…..Gaarrr.... Assignments? I hate Assignments…..Sheesh! I couldn’t help but wonder if we were ever going to study?! However, we still have to study because of the class test, surprise test etc.
What bothered us next was the heat, stinking sweaty heat! We, poor dehydrated souls, made our way to the college canteen and the retreat or Nescafe.Ice tea,Frappe and Cold fruit juice becomes our regular thirst quencher.Sadly,it cools us down just for a moment and then the thirst continues because of extreme heat.Sigh! College in DU! Survival of the fittest, I guess.
For the local student’s a.k.a THE DELHITES, coming to college is more like going “next door”, but for the outstation students, it’s like coming to a shopper’s paradise (considering the end of season sales!). Ansal Plaza – the 1st world class shopping mall in Delhi is just a stone throw away from our college. The surrounding area of the mall is beautifully landscaped with plants and fountains. It’s a cool place to hangout with friends during free periods.
Now, after all the excitement and activities, finally it’s time to put our skills to test. The entire campus is abuzz with studies and preparations for the coming exams. There will be holidays for 3 months after the exams…..woohoooo!!! College life really rocks :)

A tough fighter I used to be in the College days, I could never be ragged!
Cool! Café Coffee Day, Momo Walla Bhaiya, Baskin Robbins and a Phone Recharge Counter. And Daddy's monthly finance for and with a Dil-Wallah fiancè!
Those were the days! You should have the time of your life, because it sure doesn't last forever.
But remember what you do there is what's going to shape your future. So here's hoping you'll have a blast, and still get a decent education in the meantime.
